Environmental Simulation

Our lab was built to meet the environmental testing required by commercial and military specifications including, but not limited to:

Polaris Test

  • MIL-STD-810
  • RTCA/DO-160
  • ASTM
  • NEMA
  • IEC 60529 "IP Testing"

Although much of our equipment is designed to meet the requirements of internationally accepted specifications, we combine technologies to meet many custom requirement.

High and Low Temperature

Extreme temperatures are the leading cause of failure in almost all types of equipment. Our computer controlled chambers can produce constant or cyclic temperatures ranging from -200 F to 2500 F.   Multiple walk-in chambers as well as numerous smaller chambers allow for flexibility to meet any schedule. Our walk-in chambers can be easily expanded to accommodate almost any size product.  Automated thermal shock testing is also available.

Altitude Simulation

Our computer controlled chambers can produce climbing or descending profiles up to 100,000 feet. They can also be utilized for explosive or rapid decompression scenarios. In addition to altitude, we have a chamber for simulating deep immersion in water. Temperature can be varied during the test according to the specification desired.

Humidity

Multiple walk-in and smaller chambers are available for humidity profiles up to 95% RH at low and high temperatures. By using our HAST chamber temperatures of above 100 C can be obtained with relative humidity below 100%.

Solar Radiation

Xenon, UVA, UVB

Whether trying to determine the heating effects of direct solar radiation or the degradation effects of long term exposure to damaging ultraviolet spectra, our equipment can be combined to meet the large variety of specifications and coverage area.

Wind and Rain/Waterproofness

Our wind and rain testing is performed indoors with a large aircraft propeller and not only meets MIL-STD-810 but also the new Telcordia/Verizon Wind Driven Rain specification.  Our systems are capable of producing rain of any amount and wind exceeding 100 MPH.  In addition, we routinely perform hose down, pressure wash, depth immersion, and condensation drip..

Blowing Sand and Dust

In addition to producing these harsh conditions encountered in the real world such as MIL-STD-810 Blowing sand, dust and settling dust, we also perform ingress testing on enclosures for NEMA and IP5X and 6X rating.  We can customize testing using dust composition from Arizona road dust, volcanic ash, concrete dust, or subway dust to recreate just about any real world environment.

Explosive Atmosphere

An explosion test confirms the ability of a product to operate safely in the presence of hazardous vapors without causing ignition or demonstrate that an explosion occurring within encased equipment will be contained and will not propagate outside the test item.  Our explosion chambers use either Propane or Hexane and can support operation at jet aircraft altitudes.

Fluids Susceptibility/Contamination

Almost every product is exposed to a variety of environmental contaminants during its lifetime. Common contaminants of interest include cleaning agents, lubricants, insecticides, and fuels. We also stock some of the more exotic fluids used for military and aerospace applications as detailed in MIL-STD-810 and RTCA/DO 160.

We can expose your product to any of theses contaminants in whatever concentrations you require.

Fungus

We can support most industry standards including building materials, European, military, and FAA specifications.

Ozone

This test may be significant to evaluate polymer and rubber deterioration such as surface cracking of gaskets.

Salt Spray/Fog

Salt fog is a specialized test used to evaluate the resistance to corrosion of paints, coatings, and metal structures as well as effects on electrical systems. Our computer controlled chambers provide exposure to a salt intensive atmosphere at temperatures matching the proper specification. Other corrosive elements may be used for further corrosion testing. We have walk-in salt fog chambers for large units and also test to automotive specifications.

Icing/Freezing Rain

Using our large walk-in chambers we can build up inches of ice on your product and verify operation.  Our automated system can also meet RTCA/DO160 Category B (25 cycles) which combines altitude with humidity and freezing temperatures.

Fire and Flammability

Environ is proud of its wide range of fire and flammability offerings. We perform high temperature fire certifications for aircraft components (RTCA/DO160) at temperatures up to 2,000 F. We also perform NEBS fire testing to GR63 CORE and brush fire testing to GR 487 CORE. We offer numerous small scale flammability tests including UL94, FAA part 25, ASTM, and Coast Guard.

HAST (Highly Accelerated Stress Testing)

Many products have weaknesses which can be discovered by exposing them to high temperatures with controlled humidity. Our pressure vessel is 25 inches in diameter and 24 inches in depth.

Lithium Battery Testing

Testing to DO-311 for lithium batteries installed separately or in avionics equipment aboard aircraft.
